The CVT is the part of this Rogue that punishes neglect. Use Genuine Nissan CVT Fluid NS-3 only—never conventional ATF or a “universal” CVT fluid—and treat a timed drain-and-fill as routine maintenance, not an upsell.
Confirm your engine before ordering parts. Gas Rogues use the 2.5L QR25DE; 2017–2019 Hybrids use the MR20DD with a different spark plug (22401-1VA1C) and a smaller oil fill. The oil filter is shared, but plugs are not.

Detailed schedule

Every service, every part number

Expand each item for OEM numbers, capacities, and owner notes. Always confirm fitment for your year, engine, and drivetrain.

Every 5,000–7,500 miles (8,000–12,000 km) / 6 months

Engine oil & filter

2014–2020 Rogue 2.5L (QR25DE) specifies 0W-20 full synthetic. Capacity is about 4.9 qt (4.6 L) with filter. 2017–2019 Hybrid (MR20DD) also uses 0W-20 but a smaller fill (~4 qt (~3.8 L))—confirm in the manual. Short-trip and extreme-heat owners should stay on the short end of the interval.

Skipping or stretching oil changes is the cheapest way to shorten the life of a high-mileage QR25DE. Log mileage and date every time in Carmainty so “about 6 months” doesn’t slip into a year.

  • OEM oil filter15208-65F0E

Common genuine filter for 2nd-gen 2.5L and many Hybrids. Supersedes earlier 15208-65F0x numbers.

Always replace the drain-plug crush washer, and top off to the dipstick after the engine has sat a few minutes.

Every oil service

Tire rotation & brake inspection

Rotate at every oil change and measure tread depth. AWD Rogues need matched tread depths—uneven tires can stress the coupling and drivetrain.

Inspect pads and rotors every six months. Stop-and-go driving, hills, and Hybrid regen blending can mask early brake wear, so measure rather than guess.

Every 15,000–20,000 miles (24,000–32,000 km)

Cabin air filter

Behind the glove box on most 2nd-gen Rogues—usually a quick DIY with no special tools. Replace yearly in pollen-heavy or dusty areas. Signs it’s overdue: weak airflow, musty smell on A/C, or a visibly dark filter.

  • OEM cabin filter (pollen)27277-4BA0A

    Common 2014–2020 fit.

  • OEM cabin filter (charcoal)27277-4BU0A

Same housing with better odor control.

Every 30,000 miles (48,000 km)

Engine air filter

Inspect earlier on gravel roads or during wildfire-smoke seasons. A dirty element costs power and MPG, and the 2.5L is not forgiving of ingested dust.

  • OEM engine air filter16546-4BA1J

Current supersession for many 2014–2020 Rogues (replaces 16546-4BA1A / 4BC2A). Confirm Japan/US build if ordering carefully.

Every 30,000–60,000 miles (48,000–96,000 km) (verify)

CVT fluid

2nd-gen Rogues use a Jatco CVT that wants Genuine Nissan CVT Fluid NS-3 only. A typical drain-and-fill returns several quarts; set level per the service procedure. Severe heat, short trips, and mountain driving justify earlier service than the brochure interval.

Many independent techs recommend the 30,000–60,000 mile (48,000–96,000 km) window as real-world protection even where the book calls fluid “inspect only.” A timed fluid service is far cheaper than a replacement CVT.

Spark plugs

2.5L QR25DE uses iridium plugs that last a long time but still wear—verify the interval for your year in the manual. Hybrid plugs differ—verify by engine code before ordering.

  • OEM spark plug (2.5L, 2014–2020)22401-3TA1B

Qty 4 for QR25DE. Current supersession often listed as 22401-5YT1B. Early 1st-gen carryovers used 22401-JA01B—confirm year on parts.nissanusa.com.

  • OEM spark plug (Hybrid 2017–2019)22401-1VA1C

MR20DD Hybrid only · qty 4. Do not use the 2.5L plug.

Log the exact plug part number in Carmainty when you replace them so the next owner (or you) can match it.

Coolant, brake fluid & 12V battery

Coolant is Nissan Long Life (blue)—don’t mix with random green or universal coolant. Replace brake fluid every 2–3 years regardless of mileage since it absorbs moisture, and check the 12V battery annually; most last 3–5 years.

AWD models

Transfer case & rear differential

AWD Rogues have a transfer case and rear differential that are easy to forget. Inspect at the interval in your manual and replace fluid sooner if you tow, drive in deep snow, or notice leaks or drivetrain noise.

Short trips, heat & hills

Severe use, short-trip & CVT care schedule

Nissan’s standard intervals assume mixed, moderate driving. Mostly short trips under 5–10 miles (8–16 km), stop-and-go traffic, extreme heat, dusty roads, mountain driving, or light towing all count as severe use—and the Rogue’s CVT is the component that suffers most.

Heat is the CVT’s enemy. If your Rogue lives in hot climates, climbs hills, or sees mostly short trips where the fluid never fully warms and cycles, shorten the NS-3 interval toward 30,000 miles (48,000 km).

2017–2019 Rogue Hybrid (MR20DD)

Rogue Hybrid maintenance notes

The 2017–2019 Hybrid pairs the 2.0L MR20DD with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery. Core engine service mirrors the gas Rogue—0W-20 oil and filter 15208-65F0E—but it uses its own spark plug (22401-1VA1C) and a smaller oil capacity.

Don’t stretch oil intervals because it’s a hybrid. The engine still cycles on and off with short trips, which is hard on oil, and the CVT still requires NS-3.

Do not use the 2.5L plug 22401-3TA1B in the Hybrid. Hybrid owners should ask for a high-voltage system check at services and follow Nissan’s guidance for any hybrid warning lights.

The real math

What skipping maintenance actually costs

Wrong or neglected CVT fluid → transmission replacement

Vs. a timed Nissan NS-3 service

$4,000–$7,000+

Mismatched AWD tire depths → coupling damage

Vs. rotations every oil change

$1,500–$3,000+

Overdue oil on short-trip use → engine wear

Vs. 5–7.5k oil changes

$3,000–$6,000+

Wrong Hybrid spark plug → misfires / drivability

Vs. matching 22401-1VA1C by engine code

$300–$900+

Frequently asked questions

How often should I change oil in a 2014–2020 Rogue?

Many owners change every 5,000–7,500 miles (8,000–12,000 km) or 6 months with 0W-20 full synthetic. Follow the severe schedule (closer to 5,000 miles (8,000 km)) if you do mostly short trips, drive in extreme heat, or sit in stop-and-go traffic.

What oil filter fits a 2014–2020 Rogue?

Nissan 15208-65F0E is the common genuine filter for 2nd-gen 2.5L Rogues (and many Hybrids). It supersedes earlier 65F0x numbers. Confirm by VIN on parts.nissanusa.com.

What CVT fluid does a 2nd-gen Rogue need?

Genuine Nissan CVT Fluid NS-3 only. Never use standard ATF or a generic universal CVT fluid. A drain-and-fill on a timed schedule (often 30–60k in real-world use, sooner if severe) is the best known protection for this transmission.

What spark plugs does a 2014–2020 Rogue use?

2.5L QR25DE: Nissan 22401-3TA1B (qty 4), with 22401-5YT1B as a common supersession and 22401-JA01B on early carryover builds. 2017–2019 Hybrid (MR20DD): 22401-1VA1C (qty 4). Interval is commonly around 105,000 miles (169,000 km)—verify in your manual.

What are the cabin and engine air filter numbers?

Cabin filter: 27277-4BA0A (pollen) or 27277-4BU0A (charcoal), replaced every 15,000–20,000 miles (24,000–32,000 km) or yearly. Engine air filter: 16546-4BA1J (supersedes 16546-4BA1A / 4BC2A), about every 30,000 miles (48,000 km).

Does short-trip or severe driving change the Rogue schedule?

Yes. Use 5,000-mile oil changes, shorten CVT NS-3 service toward ~30,000 miles (48,000 km), rotate tires every oil change, inspect air filters more often on dust or smoke, and replace brake fluid about every 2 years. Short trips are especially hard on oil and the CVT.

Is the 2017–2019 Rogue Hybrid maintained differently?

Mostly the same: 0W-20 and oil filter 15208-65F0E, NS-3 for the CVT. The differences are the Hybrid spark plug (22401-1VA1C), a smaller oil capacity (~4 qt (~3.8 L)), and extra checks on the hybrid system and 12V battery. Don’t extend oil intervals just because it’s a hybrid.

Is there an app to track this Nissan Rogue schedule?

Yes—Carmainty lets you log mileage, set reminders for each interval on this page, attach receipts, and track multiple vehicles. Free to download on the App Store and Google Play.
